UrbanBetter Cityzens

What we do

Cityzens is an Africa-led global movement that integrates physical activity and citizen science to advocate for healthy, sustainable urban environments and promote youth participation in urban decision-making. Central to the initiative are Cityzens Hubs; community-based centres that host activities, drive advocacy, and foster collaboration, innovation, and impact on urban health and sustainability.

Our goal is to establish 30 Cityzens Hubs in the next three years with an Africa-led approach, scaling through the Cityzens Network, coordinated by UrbanBetter. Each Hub is hosted by a mission-aligned, locally registered non-profit or social enterprise, operating under the Hub Network Operating Guidelines with one licensed Hub per city.

How to get involved

Hosting or co-hosting a Cityzens Hub connects you to expert support, innovative tools, and a global network to drive youth-led change. As a Hub host, you’ll identify local challenges, gather and analyse data, and share insights to inform decisions. You’ll run awareness campaigns, work with policymakers to amplify youth voices, and continuously explore new opportunities to create impact.

Becoming a Cityzen means actively shaping the future of cities. You’ll join local campaigns, participate in training, and help spread awareness on key urban issues. It’s about connecting with others who are committed to creating healthier, more sustainable spaces for all.

Benefits of hosting a Hub and becoming a Cityzen

Hosting a Cityzens Hub connects organisations to a global network of experts, partners, and resources, providing opportunities for learning, collaboration, and knowledge sharing on youth mobilisation and advocacy for sustainable cities.

It opens doors to new partnerships and fundraising, enhancing visibility through brand recognition, media opportunities, and key events. Hub hosts gain access to cutting-edge technology and data tools, including wearable sensors and a citizen scientist database, as well as expert support and exclusive programmes through UrbanBetter’s Global Roster of Experts.

Most importantly, hosting a Hub increases an organisation’s influence and impact, driving positive change for healthier, more sustainable cities.
